Noshin’ with Nashan

August 17, 2019

“Jack of all trades, master of none” is a commonly used idiom. Chef Kevin Nashan is better described as the opposite, a master of all trades, jack of none. Nashan has worked in celebrated kitchens in New Mexico, New York, Chicago, New Orleans, and Spain, accumulating experience in New Mexican, American, French, Acadian, and Spanish cuisines. The quality of Nashan’s cooking is renowned. Since 2009, he has been nominated for the James Beard Award for the Best Chef in the Midwest eight times, has been a semifinalist five times, a finalist twice, and won the award in 2017. On top of all that, he has cooked for President Barack Obama and completed six Ironman triathlons! Truly a man of many talents.

Nashan brings this impressive resume to his St. Louis restaurants, Sidney Street Cafe and Peacemaker Lobster & Crab. Nashan acquired Sidney Street Cafe in 2003, and has transformed the location into one of St. Louis’ most beloved fine-dining establishments. The dishes at Sidney Street combine all of Nashan’s culinary influences, from simple Amish Chicken to the extravagant Filet Béarnaise, which comes stuffed with lobster, herbed pomme purée, and sauce béarnaise. Sidney Street was recently named St. Louis’ Favorite Romantic Spot in Sauce Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards, so you should definitely consider this as the destination of your next date night.

Peacemaker Lobster & Crab has a wholly different atmosphere from Sidney Street Cafe, but lacks none of the flavor. At Peacemaker, Nashan combines the best of Acadian and East Coast dishes, from catfish po’boys to succulent lobster rolls, all at affordable prices. Wary of eating seafood in the middle of the continental US? Fear not! Nashan is one of the few St. Louis chefs to have his seafood flown in fresh daily. So if you are craving the briney flavors of the coast in landlocked St. Louis, Peacemaker Lobster & Crab is the place to be!

Nashan has toured the world learning his trade, but St. Louis has a special place in his heart. Nashan came to St. Louis to complete his undergraduate degree in Marketing at St. Louis University in 1991, and since returning to the city, has acted as a mentor to countless St. Louis chefs. He has also been devoted to providing for all members of the St. Louis community through GiftAMeal. Since joining GiftAMeal in September 2018, 2270 meals have been gifted from Sidney Street Cafe and Peacemaker Lobster & Crab. There’s nothing sweeter than great food for a great cause!

Kevin Nashan is a man dedicated to making sure that everyone has access to good food, both in and outside of his restaurants. You can help out with both! Grab a delicious meal for yourself at either Sidney Street Cafe or Peacemaker Lobster & Crab, then use GiftAMeal to provide a nutritious meal to someone in need.
