A Spotlight on Prominent Restaurant Owners

GiftAMeal is lucky to work with some of the most renowned and skilled restaurant owners in St. Louis. These restaurateurs have helped make the St. Louis culinary scene what it is today, and we want to spotlight them:

Gerard Craft

Gerard Craft is the executive chef and owner of the Niche Food Group, which includes the restaurants Sardella, Brasserie, Taste, and Pastaria. Craft has won Food & Wine Magazine’s Best New Chef as well as Food & Wine Magazine’s Innovator of the Year. He was also named Best Chef in 2015 by the James Beard Foundation: Midwest.

Kevin Nashan

Kevin Nashan is the chef and owner of Peacemaker Lobster & Crab and Sidney Street Cafe, both on GiftAMeal. He believes that sourcing locally should be expected, not celebrated, and it doesn’t get much closer to home than the micro greens he grows in the basement or the spring garden occupying 100 yards of the Sidney Street Cafe parking lot. Nashan was named a James Beard Award finalist for Best Chef: Midwest in 2014, after four years as a semifinalist. He has cooked for President Barack Obama, and won the 2013 Cochon 555 Barbecue competition in St. Louis.

Derek & Lucas Gamlin

1764 Public House, Sub Zero Vodka Bar, and Gamlin Whiskey House are all owned by Derek and Lucas Gamlin. These restaurants are located in the Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis. In 2017, the Gamlin brothers were honored for their commitment to the neighborhood with the Central West End Association Polk Award.

Michael and Tara Gallina

Vicia is the first joint venture for the Gallinas, and it has proven immensely successful. Michael Gallina has been named to Food and Wine Magazine’s Best New Chef’s class, and Vicia was named as a semifinalist for the 2018 James Beard Award for “Best New Restaurant.” Vicia has also made its way into the press, with mentions in the New York Times T Magazine, USA Today, and Bon Appetit Magazine.

James Pendegraft

Pendegraft succeeded Dan Kopman as the CEO of Schafly beer in 2015. Before coming to Schlafly, Pendegraft was already well known in the beer industry for his work as the director of category management at InBev, president of Labatt USA, and vice president of sales and marketing at North American Breweries. Schlafly has two restaurant locations on GiftAMeal: Schlafly Tap Room and Schlafly Bottleworks.

Ben Poremba

Poremba owns the Bengelina Hospitality Group, which includes Nixta, Elaia, Olio, Parigi, La Patisserie Chouquette, and GiftAMeal restaurant The Benevolent King. Poremba is a three-time, semi-finalist for the James Beard Award for Best Mid-Western Chef.

Anthony and Rosario Scarato

Anthony and Rosario created Anthonino’s as a way to incorporate both their parents Italian and Greek culinary traditions. The Scaratos opened Anthonino’s in 2003, and since then, the restaurant, and its toasted ravioli, has become a St. Louis staple.

John Perkins

After running a catering firm and a popular underground, pop-up restaurant, Perkins opened the southern-inspired Juniper in 2013. Perkins has also recently announced plans to expand the Juniper brand further by opening a southern breakfast spot, Little Bird.
